A customer in the aerospace industry approached Hogge Precision to produce motion control components using 304 stainless steel. The customer had been experiencing long lead times and a lack of precision with other manufacturers.
Motion control products are responsible for guiding and controlling the movement of individual components within machinery. For the aerospace industry, these products are often used for aircraft actuation, munition control, ground vehicles, drone control, weapons systems, and more. Motion control components for this industry must be able to perform optimally in even the most severe conditions, so it’s important to work with a supplier that can deliver reliable products with adherence to tight tolerances.
The parts for this project had several tight tolerances between different features. This customer was unsatisfied with their previous supplier not only because they had long lead times, but because they made the parts in several operations, this made it difficult to hold the tight tolerances needed for optimal performance.
We took on the project and were able to manufacture the components complete in one operation, including deburring. As experts in precision machined components, we used our multi-task CNC turning centers to achieve consistent and accurate parts that met the drawing requirements without the need for secondary work-holding or special fixturing.
A single imperfection in aerospace components can be disastrous to a wide range of applications. This makes multi-task or “one-hit” machining especially important to this industry as it greatly reduces the risk of human error and ensures precise parts that adhere to tight tolerances.
Project Specifications:
With our skilled technicians and advanced equipment, we can meet specific tolerances and specifications to manufacture the best solution for our customers. Below are some of the spec highlights and equipment details from this project:
-
±.0005″, 32 RMS Tolerance threshold
- 5/8” Bar, 4-½” long Dimensions
- 100 pieces in 6 Weeks turnaround time
- ISO 9001:2015 Registered
- The component was manufactured using 304 stainless steel. This grade of stainless steel features high tensile strength and great protection against corrosion.
To ensure optimal precision and production efficiency, we completed this project using one of our multi-task CNC turning centers, which combines turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and deburring into one machine. This allowed us to perform all of the part’s machining in one cycle, reducing lead times and inaccuracies that result from moving the part to different workstations.
Machined Components from Hogge Precision
Motion control components for the aerospace industry must be extremely precise and made from high-quality materials to ensure optimal performance. For this project, we used 304 stainless steel and one of our multi-task turning centers to deliver 100 pieces with tight tolerances and short lead times. As a manufacturer of precision machined components, Hogge Precision is dedicated to meeting the needs of our customers with quality parts.
